KNOWN UP / BUYER GUIDE

How to choose the best personal branding agency for your goals

Choose a personal branding agency by its understanding of your audience, its process for capturing your voice, the evidence behind its work and the clarity of its scope.

What does “best” mean for your business?

The best fit depends on what you need your reputation to do. A founder looking for relevant sales conversations needs a different brief from an executive preparing for speaking opportunities or a consultant clarifying a specialist offer. Write down the audience, the decision you want them to make and the experience that gives you credibility.

Use that brief to compare agencies. A large publishing output has limited value if the content attracts people who will never need your expertise. Equally, a beautifully rewritten profile needs a plan for reaching the right readers.

Ask how your voice becomes the work

Ask the agency to explain its interview and approval process. Who speaks with you? What questions do they ask? How do they turn an ordinary conversation into a useful point of view? Who writes the first draft, and how do your revisions influence later work?

A practical exercise is to share one business decision and ask how they would explore it. Look for questions about alternatives, trade-offs, consequences and what you learned. Those details give writing a perspective that generic prompts struggle to supply.

Compare these six things before signing

AreaQuestion to ask
PositioningWho should this profile appeal to, and why?

ScopeWhat content, engagement and outreach activity is included?
EvidenceCan you show approved examples and explain your role?
MeasurementWhich outcomes will we review together?

Read case studies with context

Ask about the starting point, the period measured, the work delivered and the source of each result. A screenshot of impressions tells you about reach; qualified enquiries tell you something different. Understand which outcome the client actually wanted and whether other campaigns contributed.

For confidential work, ask whether anonymised examples or an approved reference are available. A provider should be able to explain its process without exposing private client information.

Agree on meaningful measures

For a commercial profile, useful signals can include visits from relevant people, substantive comments, enquiries that match your offer and conversations that progress. Set a baseline and review those signals alongside delivery quality. Follower count can provide context, but the identity and relevance of the audience matter.
